Personal statement

Dr YoungHwa Cha is a postdoctoral research associate at the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. She is currently working on the multi-hazard interactions and cascading impacts work package of the MEDiate project ('Multi-hazard and risk-informed system for enhanced local and regional disaster risk management'), funded by the Horizon Europe programme of the European Commission. She is an interdisciplinary researcher in climate change adaptation governance, bridging the gap between science, policy, and practice. Her expertise lies in adaptation policy, climate risk, and collaborative vulnerability modeling, collaborating with international, national, and local institutions such as UNEP, Historic Environment Scotland, Edinburgh City Council, government ministries, and local authorities in South Korea, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia. She effectively communicates with a broad range of stakeholders through working at the University of Edinburgh (3 years) and the Korean Adaptation Centre for Climate Change (3 years).
